Focus and Scope

The Journal of Pacific Archaeology publishes peer-reviewed research on the archaeology of the islands and continental margins of the Pacific Ocean, both northern and southern hemispheres. Contributions on relevant aspects of related subjects such as biological anthropology, historical linguistics, environmental sciences, material culture, ethnography and history are also invited. The Journal of Pacific Archaeology replaces the New Zealand Journal of Archaeology (volumes 1-30, published 1979-2008).

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts are peer-reviewed by at least two referees. Referee reports are normally made available to contributors. The Editor will usually make and advise a decision on publication within four months of receiving the manuscript. If a paper is accepted, the senior author may be asked to revise the text, tables and figures to meet all JPA standards for publication. A memorandum of agreement to publish, made between the contributor and the publisher, will also need to be completed.

Author Self-Archiving

This journal permits authors to post pre-publication manuscripts submitted to the journal on personal websites or institutional repositories both prior to and after publication, with the following conditions.

* When uploading an accepted manuscript to a repository or website, authors should include a credit line (see last bullet point below) and a link to the final published version of the article. This will guarantee that the definitive version is readily available to those accessing your article from public repositories, and means that your article is more likely to be cited correctly.

* A PDF of the final published version of the article as it appears in the journal following copyediting and proof correction may NOT be deposited by authors in institutional repositories or personal websites.

* Authors should include the following credit line when depositing their accepted manuscripts. "This is a pre-copy-editing, author-produced PDF of an article accepted for publication in the Journal of Pacific Archaeology following peer review. The definitive publisher-authenticated version [insert complete citation information here] is available online at: www.pacificarchaeology.org/ [insert URL that the author will receive upon publication here]."
